Patrick Ilg is Associate Professor in the Department of Mathematics & Statistics within the School of Mathematical, Physical and Computational Sciences at the University of Reading, UK. His research focuses on theory and simulation of various soft matter systems, in particular their dynamics and flow properties. He has a long-standing interest in magnetic nanoparticles and ferrofluids due to their sensitivity to external fields. Current efforts include studies on nonlinear responses of magnetic nanoparticles to time-dependent external fields that underpin several biomedical applications.
报告内容简介：
First synthesised around 50 years ago, magnetic fluids with their fascinating combination of magnetic and fluid properties have opened novel technical and biomedical applications, which in turn sparked the interest of more and more researchers. This talk will try to give an overview of some selected research directions on magnetic fluids from a mathematical modelling perspective, demonstrating that this field sits on the intersection of fluid dynamics, thermodynamics and statistical physics as well as micromagnetics. Particular emphasis will be paid to dynamic phenomena such as the nonequilibrium magnetisation dynamics and magnetoviscous effects, biomedical applications and open questions..
