报告人简介:

傅刚,中国海洋大学海洋与大气学院教授、博士生导师。1984年7月本科毕业于原山东海洋学院海洋气象专业,1987年7月在该校获得理学硕士学位后留校工作。1993年被破格提升为副教授。1997年7月获得青岛海洋大学理学博士学位,1999年3月获得日本东京大学理学博士学位。长期从事海雾、海上爆发性气旋和台风的研究,在包括Journal of the Atmospheric Sciences,Monthly Weather Review,Journal of Applied Meteorology and Climatology, Journal of the Meteorological Society of Japan,Advances in Atmospheric Sciences,Atmospheric Research,气象学报,海洋气象学报等国内外学术刊物上发表论文114篇,出版专著4部,研究成果对于丰富海洋气象学的研究内容、提高对灾害性天气系统的认识水平做出了贡献。1999年获国家教育部科技进步三等奖;2006年获得全国优秀气象科技工作者荣誉称号。完成了国家自然科学基金项目、国家科技部“863”项目以及中国气象局行业专项等多个科研项目。

 报告简介:

  Potential Vorticity (PV), which was firstly put forward by Rossby (1940), is a key variable reflecting both the dynamic and thermodynamic rocesses of atmosphere. PV was regarded as “a major weapon in the armory of atmospheric scientists when viewing data from the real atmosphere or from computer models simulating it” (Hoskins 2015, p. 2). Ever since Hoskins et al. (1985) published their seminal paper on PV theory to illustrate the dynamics of cyclones, PV has been widely used to analyze the evolution of cyclones and to diagnose various weather systems. A number of previous researches have revealed that upper-level PV in mid-latitude tropopause associated with explosive cyclones (ECs) exhibited various shapes. Generally, there are three shapes of upper-level PV, i.e, “PV streamer (or PV banner, PV trough)”, “PV hook” and “treble-clef”. As different shapes of upper-level PV may signify different stages of cyclones, thus, it is of great importance to reveal different shapes of upper-level PV associated with ECs. In this talk, first of all, the history of EC is introduced. Then, the modified definition of EC is given. Later, the morphological features of upper-level PV associated with ECs are illustrated. The terms of “PV streamer”, “PV hook” and “treble-clef” are introduced. Almost all previous works mentioned “PV streamer”, “PV hook” and “treble-clef” are summarized and compared in order to understand the PV morphology difference. The dynamic and thermodynamic processes characterized by “PV streamer”, “PV hook” and “treble-clef”, as well as the evolution and connection of these three shapes of PV are examined. We hope that this talk may deepen our understanding to dynamics and thermodynamics of ECs.
