Dr. Gary Feng is a Research Soil Scientist at USDA-ARS, Vice-Leader of Soil and Water Management Professionals Community, Genetics and Sustainable Agriculture Research Unit and an adjunct faculty member at Mississippi State University. Prior to joining USDA-ARS, he worked at Oregon State University, University of California at Riverside, Washington State University, and Idaho State Department of Environmental Quality. Dr. Feng has 22-year experience in field and simulation studies involving soil and water conservation and management in arid, semi-arid and humid regions. He secured research funding in total of $1.12 million dollars. Dr. Feng has led, collaborated, and participated in many interdisciplinary research projects at the location, national, and international levels. Research endeavors undertaken during his career have resulted in 108 peer-reviewed journal manuscripts, conference proceeding papers and book chapters, and 104 published meeting abstracts. Dr. Feng has been invited to give 24 presentations at national and international research institutes and universities which sponsored his invited travels. He has mentored 8 graduate students and hosted or advised 19 visiting scientists and PhD students from China, US, Canada, and India. Dr. Feng served as 2016 Leader of ASA Model Applications in Field Research Community, 2017 Leader of ASA US-Sino Agriculture Research Forum, and 2017 Vice-Leader of the Soil-Plant-Water Relations Community. He served on the selection committee for SSSA Fellows in 2012 and 2013. Dr. Feng is a SSSAJ Associate Editor since 2012 and served as a reviewer for 28 scientific journals. He organized or co-organized 7 international symposiums and workshops addressing soil and water management. In recognizing his career development benefited from contributions made by other ASA leaders and members, Dr. Feng would like to give back and serve the Soil and Water Management Professionals Community.
