报告摘要:

Forest fire can affect weather conditions by reducing forest coverage. Investigating this impact would improve our understanding of fire-vegetation-climate interactions and the capacity of post-fire tree restoration management. This study detected land-surface property changes induced by large wildfires in the continental United States using MODIS and simulated the meteorological responses using the WRF model. The results show that fires reduce LAI and NDVI. Albedo first decreases and then increases. The changes are complex, depending on vegetation type and coverage, climate type, and season. The land-surface property changes lead to the formation of heat island effect resulted from increases in solar radiation and sensible heat flux. Relative humidity is reduced, mainly due to decreased evapotranspiration. Drought index increases accordingly, which would adversely affect post-fire tree regeneration. A parameterization scheme was developed based on the satellite detection to predict long-term changes of vegetation coverage for the Earth system models to simulate the meteorological impacts of forest fires.
