报告摘要：Many universities around the world today want to be top and world class. However, the journey to becoming a world-class top university is not an easy one. One of the key essentials is to produce world-class high-impact research and to recruit top faculty, such as Nobel Prize winners and Academicians. In this talk, I will discuss what is research, the different types of research and their pros and cons. More importantly, I will mention what we mean by research impact and how such impact can be measured and appreciated. Experiences and views drawn from American, Swiss, and Swedish universities will be discussed in this seminar. Finally, comments and a roadmap for striving towards the goal of a world class university will be made.
报告人简介：
苏才江院士是2019年当选为英国皇家工程院院士，1996年荣获英国剑桥大学计算机博士，他是前新加坡资讯发展局的首席技术官和副局长，也是前新加坡能源电讯公司的首席技术官和副总裁。他领导过国家智慧城市计划、物联网项目、数据分析工程和绿色数据中心研究项目。2004年当任过英国伦敦大学讲座教授。更早之前他是美国 TRW Systems Inc.公司的研发总监。也在美国 Hughes Research Labs 研究实验室当过科学家。2009年荣获英国工程学院 IET Fleming Medal 奖章。2005年荣获美国 IEEE Kiyo Tomiyasu 奖章。他是随意无线移动网路 ( Ad hoc networks ) 的开拓者，为这领域写了第一本书，是 Prentice Hall Publishers 最畅销的书本之一。Ad Hoc 随意无线移动网路为IoT物联网铺平了可行的道路。他在物联网和智慧城市领域都有做出了贡献。他是IET智慧城市期刊主编，发表过100多篇论文。他是GLG集团物联网与智慧城市首席专家。
