In this presentation, we present a quantitative phase-field modeling for the rapid solidification in alloys. Based on the recently developed matched asymptotic analysis, we have performed the quantitative modeling by giving a weight to the thermal diffusion instead of adopting the anti-trapping current. It implies that we can obtain a profile that is far from equilibrium at the solid-liquid interface in a wide range of interface speeds. Several numerical simulations compared to the conventional models have been performed.

Sungha Yoon, a post-doctorial researcher in Institute of Mathematical Sciences at Ewha Womans University. His research interests are computational fluid dynamics, phase-field models, asymptotic analysis, spectral and high-order methods, etc. Recently, I have developed high-order methods to the gradient flows of Lyapunov functional with a high-order polynomial potential, and present a new method of rapid solidification in dilute binary alloys. He has published more than 20 papers, the related papers have been published in Applied Mathematics Letters, Computers & Mathematics with Applications, Communications in Nonlinear Science and Numerical Simulation, etc.
