专家简介:

Hugh Coe is Professor of Atmospheric Composition at The University of Manchester, Director of the Manchester Environmental Research Institute and visiting Professor at Fudan University.  His research interests focus on quantifying atmospheric processes involving aerosols and clouds that are important for improving predictions of air quality and climate.  He has led and participated in numerous large international field studies to study amongst others biomass burning, aerosol-cloud interactions, and trans-boundary pollution including SAMBBA (NE/J010073/1) and CLARIFY (NE/L007649/1).  He currently leads a major study to examine interactions between pollution and the Indian monsoon using the UK research aircraft (SWAAMI NE/L013886/1) and is a steering committee member for the Dynamics-aerosol-chemistry-cloud interactions in West Africa EU FP7 programme.  He was the Chair of the local organising committee of the European Aerosol Conference in 2011 and was a Science Board member for the US Department of Energy Atmospheric Radiation Measurement Climate Research facility (ACRF).  He is the Chair of the Local Organising Committee of the 2020 IGAC Conference.  He was the co-Director for the National Centre for Atmospheric Sciences between 2008 and 2013 and currently is a member of the NCAS Scientific Strategy Board and the FAAM Strategy Committee. He was the Head of School of Earth, and Environmental Sciences between 2011 and 2015.  He has published over 250 peer review publications and has a h index of 61.  In 2014 and 2018 he was named as one of the 100 Most Highly Cited Researchers in Geosciences.

David Topping completed his PhD in 2005 on ’Modelling the hygroscopic properties of atmospheric aerosol particles’ at the University of Manchester Institute of Science and Technology (UMIST) after finishing a degree in Physics at the same institute. Following this he became a fellow of the UK National Centre for Atmospheric Science (NCAS) before taking on the role of a senior research fellow part funded by the School of Earth and Environmental Science (SEES)/Centre for Atmospheric Science (CAS) at the University of Manchester where he is now a senior lecturer. He research focuses primarily on monitoring and predicting the evolving characteristics of aerosol particles, and their impact, through computational models. His initial research interests focused on building computational models at the single particle scale. These included multicomponent/multiphase models designed to predict hygroscopic properties and act as a benchmark for experimental studies.  Following this His have developed and applied a range of model frameworks from automated box-models through to parameterizations of aerosol processes used in regional and global models. From an experimental perspective, this has included managing and collaborating on a range of laboratory studies designed to increase model fidelity through provision of fundamental property data.
